Angeliki Papathanasiou is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Political Theory in the Department of Political Science at the University of Crete. She received her BA, MA, and PhD in Political Science from the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, where she completed her doctoral dissertation in Political Theory in 2015. Her doctoral and postdoctoral research—conducted at the Department of Sociology of the University of Crete—was supported by the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY).
From 2020 to 2023 she taught Political and Social Theory in the Department of Political Science at the University of Crete. She is also a member of the editorial team of the journal Axiologika.
Her research and teaching focus on political and social theory, particularly the intellectual traditions of modern natural law and the Enlightenment, as well as central questions in Marxian and Marxist thought, structuralism, post-structuralism, and critical theory. Her work engages with major figures and debates in modern political thought, including the critique of political economy, theories of authority and subjectivity, and the historical formation of modern political concepts.
