Antonis Angelakis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Crete. He holds a PhD in Research, Technology and Innovation Policy from the Department of Political Science at the University of Crete and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Nottingham Business School, UK. He earned an MA in Public Administration and Public Policy from the University of York (UK) and a BA in Political Science from the University of Crete. Since 2024, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Property Development and Management Company of the University of Crete (EADP-UoC) and, since 2025, a member of the University of Crete’s Committee for Technology Transfer, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. His research and academic interests focus on technology policy, innovation policy, technology transfer and intellectual property, innovation management, international political economy of technology, and technological development in specialized fields (e.g. space policy and life sciences). He has extensive teaching experience at the University of Crete, the Technical University of Crete, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Hellenic Mediterranean University, and Nottingham Business School (UK). He has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals, edited volumes, and academic conference proceedings. From 2013 to 2024, he worked as an innovation policy expert at the Small Enterprises Institute of the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (IME GSEVEE). He has also participated in numerous research and development projects as an innovation expert with a wide range of academic, research, technological, and social organizations in Greece and abroad, including the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), the National Technical University of Athens, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has served on numerous public policy design and evaluation committees dealing with support mechanisms for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), financing instruments, development and regional policies, as well as technology and innovation policy. He was a member of the Regional Research and Innovation Council (PSEK) of the Region of Attica from 2017 to 2025 and served as a member of the European Commission’s high-level expert group, the “Fit for Future Platform” (F4F), for the simplification of EU legislation from 2021 to 2024.
