1. The following study programme applies to new entrants:
The NEW study programme approved by the Department Assembly at its 164th/14-06-2017 meeting, will APPLY from the academic year 2017-2018 and will affect new entrants.
Studies are completed after eight (8) academic semesters. Successful completion results in the awarding of a degree in Political Science, for which students are required to attend now forty-four (44) freestanding semester courses as follows:
Α) Twenty-one (21) compulsory courses.
Β) Four (4) foreign language compulsory courses.
C) One (1) course chosen, at the student’s discretion, from any of the courses offered by University of Crete Departments.
D) Eighteen (18) elective courses, including six (6) seminar courses and twelve (12) taught courses. The six seminar courses include “Academic Project Writing”, which the student can attend from the third semester onwards. More specifically, in the third and second semester he/she can register for more courses than those intended for each semester. If a student registers for the course in subsequent semesters, it is included in the prescribed number of courses.
Ε) Writing a degree dissertation is optional. Successful completion of the degree dissertation is equivalent to two seminar courses, which are deducted from the total number of seminar courses required towards the award of a degree.
F) Successful participation in the practical training programme is equivalent to two (2) elective courses, which are deducted from the total number of compulsory courses required for the award of a degree.
G) At the beginning of the academic year, the courses offered in the autumn and spring semesters are outlined. At the beginning of each semester, within the prescribed time, each student should register for courses through the Students Web platform. The distribution of courses per semester is as follows:

NOTE: The distribution of courses per semester is compulsory for students.
If a student does not register for a course at the beginning of the semester, then it is assumed that he/she will not attend and therefore has no right to obtain the course books distributed or take part in the examinations of that semester and the repeat examinations in September.
